What is SEO?

Digital marketing has been widely used by different businesses to promote products online. One example of which is Search Engine Optimization or SEO. It is the practice of improving your website in order to get high rank in Google or other search engines. To put it simply, you make your contents visible on the first page. However, this is not an easy task as there are algorithms that you have to consider.

How important is SEO?

Imagine how many times people turn to Google, Bing, or Yahoo to search answers for their queries. That’s the number of times you miss your opportunity of earning potential consumers if you still don’t optimize your website. Therefore, your goal is to make sure that your website shows up on the first page so that people will visit your site instead of scrolling further.

SEO is a complex technique that involves different processes which can be divided into two: onsite and offsite. While onsite SEO is the process wherein you make your site search engine friendly, offsite SEO is the act of promoting it over internet (apart from advertising). So, to make sure that your website will appear on page 1, you can read the following tips.

  1. Come up with a catchy page title, precise description, and right keywords. A good title should be close to 60 characters and the meta-description should be no more than 150 characters. As for keywords, you can check for related phrases with high traffic from Google’s Keyword Planner or SEMRush.
  2. Group your content into categories. Design your homepage wisely in a way that users will know where to navigate to find whatever they need to.
  3. Add internal links. Internal links are effective in encouraging readers to access other pages from your site. It also helps you to make contents that are connected to one another.
  4. Create a high quality and unique content. Even if you do the above suggestions, you still won’t be able to get a high ranking if you have a poor written content and plagiarized work. Hence, before you publish on your site, assure that you have original materials.
  5. Build a mobile friendly website that loads fast. Most internet users search from their phone; thus, you have to check whether you’re offering a mobile friendly site. Aside from that, loading speed is crucial too as not all are willing to wait.
  6. Do link building. Having many backlinks is important as it indicates the popularity of your site. Backlinks or inbound links are those links that direct to your website which drives traffic and increase your site’s authority.
  7. Promote sites on social media. Even though social media does not directly affect your ranking, it can help in many ways. For example, sharing your link on Facebook can gain you potential visitors on your site.

To sum up, SEO in not an overnight task, you need to put a lot of effort in improving your ranking in search engines and enhance the quality and quantity of your visits.
